Texas Rowing Center as seen from the hike-and-bike trail on Lady Bird Lake

TEXAS ROWING CENTER

CONCEPT

The Texas Rowing Center currently located on Lady Bird Lake in Austin, Texas, offers rowing, canoe, stand-up paddle board, and kayak rentals to the Austin community. In addition to serving as a recreational rental center on the lake, they provide after-school lessons to high school and middle school students and house the UT Men’s Crew team rowing equipment. This proposal offers a multitude of pathways at the edge of the lake to mediate between Hike and Bike Trail runners and the rowing center staff and students. The boat storage would be re-located to the lake-side of the trail to relieve traffic congestion. Overhead walkways would allow for patrons to watch rowing competitions in the shade.  The new rowing center would be completely open air with the exception of a training room and event space on the top level overlooking the lake. Views out to the lake from a conditioned space would allow for a more comfortable training atmosphere.
